40% Off Cosmetic Sclerotherapy Treatment

VenaSeal is a new technology used to close saphenous veins. Unlike traditional methods, such as endovenous laser or radiofrequency ablation treatments, the VenaSeal does not use any heat to seal the vein. Instead it fills the inside of the vein with a medical adhesive known as cyanoacrylate. This adhesive expands painlessly inside the vein and seals the vein shut. The adhesive remains in the vein permanently.

Cyanoacrylate adhesives have been used in medicine for decades. It is soft, inert, stable, and extremely safe. In the battlefield it has been used to seal serious wounds for over 40 years. In medicine it has been used effectively and safely for over 15 years sealing a variety of blood vessels. Now, with VenaSeal, we can seal saphenous veins with this adhesive. Research to date has demonstrated the same effectiveness as laser or radio frequency ablations and no serious adverse reactions. It is now FDA approved in the United States.

VenaSeal has several important advantages over endovenous laser and radio frequency procedures. Because there is no heat used, there is no need for painful anesthetic injections and the procedure is almost completely painless. For patients who are needle phobic this is a major advantage. Another advantage is that there is no need for compression stockings after the treatment. Furthermore, the risks of complications from heat are completely avoided, such as skin burns or nerve injury. The recovery is essentially immediate and painless, and there are no restrictions afterwards.

Although VenaSeal is FDA approved, there is currently no insurance coverage for this procedure. While this represents an expense to patients, there is a silver lining: there is no delay for insurance authorizations, there is no need for months of compression stockings first, and for those with high deductibles the financial impact isn’t very different.
